The Meeting of the Streams

At times the holy spirit does its work quietly within the body and soul. It links all the concerns hidden in them with all the higher realms beyond them. Thereby the person is elevated, hallowed. He is lifted toward all the higher realms. He experiences within himself every influence coming from above. And paralleling it, from within himself, from the depths of his being, forces stream forth and rise upward. The lights meet and reveal to each other the majesty of their self- revelation.

And everything holy and exalted is directed to and rooted in the deep sources of its origin. Every good inclination, every virtue, every act of service, every holy thought, every divine commandment, every impulse to equity is experienced as having reached us from a mighty world beyond, from a world ancient and new. It streams toward us from realms distant and near, from the souls of ancestors, from a chain of many generations. It is precious and beloved, full of life and shining beauty.

The living word kisses us with abounding love, and we kiss it with profuse endearment. "I am for my beloved, and my beloved is for me" of Songs 2:16).
